Organizing Deep Dive – Organizing and Anxiety, Part 2

Tips and Strategies for Calming Anxiety and Getting Organized

Many of us feel anxiety and need practical tips for calming ourselves down. With information coming at us 24/7 through our jobs, relationships, current events, the news, and social media, we can easily feel overwhelmed and anxious. In fact, around 40 million American adults say that anxiety is a part of their lives. Some practical tips can help. For some people, working with a professional counselor or consulting with a physician or psychiatrist is needed. For many of us, simply learning some practical skills for managing anxiety will make a big difference.

Here are a few practical anxiety management tips we discuss in the video:

  • Write down things that you need to do, rather than simply trying to remember things or leaving things lying around as visual reminders. This will help clear your mind.
  • Minimize clutter. Professional organizer Christina Scalise says that “clutter is a visual to-do list.” The more you get rid of clutter the more you will feel in control of your life.
  • Clutter in the house makes it hard to rest. Clutter in the bedroom makes it hard to sleep.

In this video, we also practice a breathing technique that is proven to calm your brain and help lower anxiety.
