Organizing Deep Dive – Organizing and Anxiety

How getting organized can help with anxiety

Anxiety is the most common mental health issue facing Americans—affecting 40 million adults. Much of our anxiety is worrying about the future and events that we cannot control. Everyday concerns can feel like looming catastrophes and cause problems with sleep, work, relationships, and physical health.

Anxiety can impact our home environments which, in turn can create more anxiety. Clutter is often a result of fear of letting things go because you may need things in the future.

A study at Yale University showed that when we try to get rid of things about which we feel an emotional connection, the part of our brain that deals with conflict and pain overreacts.

In this video we discuss how we can manage and decrease our anxiety and create a more peaceful home environment and mental experience.

Creating a clutter-free environment is difficult. Despite your best intentions, you may find yourself overcome with doubt, anxiety, or simply not knowing where to begin. To help you face those challenges, we have created Perfectly Placed’s Organizing Deep Dive.

As a professional organizer, I have been helping people declutter and design beautiful spaces since 2005. My husband, Travis, has been providing counseling services to clients since 2003. Now, for the first time, we have combined our specialties and take a “deeper dive” into the mental and emotional aspects of organizing your life!
