Elfa System Custom Linen Closet Makeover

Susan Stewart, Perfectly Placed

Linen closets can be frustrating to try and organize. Narrow doors, poor lighting, and insufficient shelving all contribute to wasted space and poorly organized towels, linens, and toiletries.

In this video, St. Louis-based professional organizer Susan Stewart does a makeover of her own linen closet using the Elfa System from The Container Store.

The renovation project began with removing the old shelving system, which had only four shelves. These were then replaced with the brackets and shelves of the Elfa System. The change dramatically improved the storage capacity of the closet and now allowed for seven adjustable shelves, almost doubling the space!

Adding motion detector lighting units on the wall and the ceiling, which turn on when opening the linen closet, make the space much brighter and more functional. With the improved lighting and increased space, it is much easier to find what you are looking for!

Another improvement that makes finding what you are looking for (even a bandage in the wee hours of the morning) easier are plastic baskets and large, clear, beautiful labels for each category of items stored in the closet.

All of these improvements make opening the linen closet door a real joy (and you might even hear angels sing!).
